“Nadina,” Faust spoke, as clearly and steadily as he could. He turned his desolate gaze to the new mother, whose pups peered out nervously from beneath her. “Will you lead the pups south, out of the cover of smoke?”

Arthur:
"I'll stay here and look for survivors," he said, nodding toward his two siblings. "But they can't stay in this."

Looking to Nadina, he perked his ears up hopefully. "Will you look after them?"

Nadina:
Unable to stay balanced on quivering legs, she sat down hard on the scorched earth. The Ade was dead. Havir was dead. A wail from Silvanus, the once-magnificent high priest who now lay broken in the dust confirmed this for her, and tears welled in her eyes.

A voice broke Nadina’s sorrow. Faust was talking to her, and she looked up. A part of her was why he was giving orders...he was a sort of outcast in the pack, being an infidel. But he was the alpha’s brother, and the closest thing they had to a leader now that Silvanus had been obviously shattered. And what did being an infidel mean, anyway, now that there was now Havir to serve?

His words brought her back to the present. Of course, she would take her own pups away. But Arthur spoke, too. Take Malika’s pups? The she-wolf turned to look at the frightened juveniles, and her heart was moved with pity for them. They had no parents now. They were alone.

“Of course.” she said to both male wolves, and ushered Denahi and Morgana nearer her.
